Cashew Price Pegged at Gh₵5.00 in Jaman North

Price of cashew nuts in the cashew growing areas has been the topic for debate between Cashew farmers and the Buyers Association.
This has raised a lot of concerns from the cashew farmers requesting government to determine and regulate cashew price in the country.

The cashew buyers this season Begun with Gh¢7.00 per kilogram but has since dropped to ₵4.00 per kilo.

Speaking at the Cashew Stakeholders Meeting at Sampa, the Member Of Parliament for Jaman North Constituency Honorable Ahenkwaa Yaw Frederick during the meeting stated that, the Tree Crop Develop Authority and the necessary authority which are to regulate cashew production in the country has presented the bill to Parliament house which is yet to be passed to law to regulate the pricing of cashew in the country in the subsequent years.

He therefore proposed that, the cashew price should be pegged at Gh₵5.00 for the remaining days in this year’s Cashew Season.

The District Chief Executive for the Jaman North District Hon. Adane Ankomah also affirmed to the proposed Gh¢5 by the Honorable MP. He further advised the farmers to assist the security agencies in the District to arrest individuals who smuggle cashew from Ivory Coast to Ghana.

The General Secretary for Cashew Farmers Association, Mr. Clement Anane also appealed to the farmers to insist on the given price and should not sell their nuts to companies who will refuse to buy with the new proposed price.
